When my mom began to explain an organization that one of her friends Jason Yunker was involved with (Bosko) I knew that I was going to Haiti. Sure enough I was signed up to go on the next trip with a group college students. I was encouraged to write sponsorship letters, and ask for prayer support even though I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Not long after I found myself on the plane to a foreign country with complete strangers and not to mention I was the youngest on the trip. To my surprise I instantly fell in love with the people of Haiti and how the love for God was present. To this day I have been on three separate trips and have built great relationships with friends in Haiti and also people on the Bosko team. These trips have strengthened my relationship with God and have encouraged and strengthened me to live as His disciple.
Our week spent in Haiti over spring break was a whirlwind – with a constant supply of energy available from the kids we spent the majority of each day with! Being mobbed by hugging, laughing, excited children was incredible; being wiped clean by a child with the hem of her skirt was to be humbled beyond compare. Spending time at Bosko and the surrounding village was a joy: singing songs, translating Bible passages, playing duck duck goose and soccer, and providing clothes, food, and catechisms. Bosko brings together both those traveling and those supporting with materials and prayer back home, and I look forward to being involved on both sides as opportunities arise in the future!
